Objective of the event: 

The event will allow socialising the advances and challenges in the inclusion of women and indigenous groups in Latin America, from the institutional framework and specific experiences and tools.

  • Learning about progress in gender mainstreaming in Latin American NDCs and the tools for implementation: the case of Peru.
  • Climate action from the perspective of Latin American Indigenous Peoples:
    • A regional overview: intercultural dialogue on climate change between indigenous peoples and abya yala governments
    • The vision of indigenous women in the implementation of national measures to combat climate change:
  • Ancestral knowledge and practices for adapting to climate change from the point of view of Aymara and Quechua women in Bolivia and Peru
  • The Indigenous Peoples' Platform against Climate Change in Peru: 

EUROCLIMA+ support in this area will be socialised with the different actions and projects that are being implemented in the region.

Brief description

The format of the panel includes:

  1. Presentation of the event, panellists, objectives and dynamics. Contextualisation of the panel and advances in the region: Moderator/to (5 min) FIIAPP
  2. Discussion on the key elements and lessons learned in the processes of developing the advances and challenges in the inclusion of women and indigenous groups in Latin America: (40 min; 2 rounds of questions to each panellist of 5 minutes each. Facilitated b the moderator)

a.Advances in gender mainstreaming in Latin American NDCs and implementation tools: the case of Peru. Rosa Morales. Questions for rounds: 

i.How has MINAM approached gender mainstreaming in the NDCs? 

ii.What have been your main challenges and lessons learned?

b.The vision of indigenous women in the implementation of national measures to combat climate change: 

i.Indigenous women and climate action: a regional perspective. FILAC/Hortensia Hidalgo

ii.Ancestral knowledge and practices for adaptation to climate change from the point of view of Aymara and Quechua women in Bolivia and Peru. Isabel Gómez Ajahuana, Peruvian Highlands Leader. Questions for intervention rounds:

1.what progress have you made in developing women's role in addressing climate change in your communities?

iii.The Indigenous Peoples' Platform against Climate Change in Peru: Speaker TBC. Questions for intervention rounds:

1.In the framework of Peru, with gender mainstreamed in the NDC and the operating PPICC platform, How can PPICC improve the lives of vulnerable women such as indigenous women?
