Objective of the event
Based on the experience of policy makers and representatives of financial institutions at different levels of government in Latin American countries, reflect on strategies for closing the climate financing gap at the local level.
Brief description
A key challenge for limiting global warming to 1.5° or 2° is to translate climate goals and policies into well-prepared projects that are attractive to investors. There is also a lack of capacities and affordable green products for reorienting the strategies of financial institutions (e.g. development or commercial banks) towards climate change activities.
The role of subnational entities is essential to the achievement of the NDCs, since a large percentage of national public investment is materialized through projects that are formulated and implemented at the local level. Working with this approach, in partnership with development banks and international cooperation, provides experience for strengthening the capacity of governments and financial institutions to finance the implementation of NDCs.
This session will present experiences of different actors in the financial ecosystem with tools, services, methodologies, and financial instruments, opening the discussion to identify innovative areas for closing the climate financing gap at the local level.
