Objective of the event
The event aims to pursue an economic recovery and revival focused on low-carbon economic sectors that can generate both employment and environmental resilience, strengthening the human capacity to create prosperity.
Description
COVID-19 is the latest expression of unsustainability, impacting a global economy already going through three crises: a crisis of instability and low output growth; a crisis of growing inequality; and an environmental crisis, which threatens to destroy the natural systems that sustain life on the planet.
ECLAC's latest position paper, "Building a New Future: A Transformative Recovery with Equality and Sustainability", argues for the need to address these crises simultaneously, based on a new model called the "Big Push for Sustainability".
Eight sectors have been identified for this Big Push:
- Renewable energies
- Sustainable Mobility
- Digital Revolution
- Health care manufacturing industry
- Care industry
- Bioeconomics and NbS
- Circular Economy
- Sustainable Tourism
In the side event, the Big Push model will be developed, and the Sustainable Mobility sector will be addressed with the aim of promoting more inclusive cities, while generating better jobs, improving productivity, and promoting value chains.
