Objective of the event
To expose the decisive role of Research and Education Networks in terms of digital infrastructure as well as the articulation of climate research, both within the Academic Sector and with other sectors that make decisions on climate policies, with the precise aim of bringing the Academic Sector closer to the levels of definition and implementation of these policies, by finding new spaces for participation that will allow both the coordination, orientation and synchronisation of scientific climate research with these levels, and also optimise the use of the capacities of the Academic Sector in climate research for policies in this area.
Match the values developed and promoted by the present Networks with the objectives pursued by science and researchers in Climate Action, for the development of a collaborative Statement of Intent in support of these objectives.
Other objectives: To find spaces for new opportunities for projects, research, and innovation, in particular to help reduce the carbon footprint.
Description
After an exchange on the values and visions of the Research and Education Networks present by their representatives, contrasting them with the views of the panellists, members of the scientific body and attendees, an attempt will be made to find the determining elements as starting points for the development of an Agreement between the Networks, aimed at strengthening collaboration in support of Climate Action and research institutions and researchers in this field.
Elements to be presented that may constitute starting points in this direction:
Presentation of the progress of the BELLA Project in terms of digital infrastructure between the Latin American and European Academic Sectors, and its impact on scientific research and education capacities, in particular for earth observation instruments. Presentation of tools and applications in the field of climate and their uses (particularly in research) facilitated by this infrastructure. By highlighting the important link with the COPERNICUS programme and with other relevant actors involved in earth observation and climate action, such as the GEO Group (Group on Earth Observation) or the IAI, the research and education networks (GÉANT, CLARA, ASREN) present will be in dialogue and actively seeking to establish a link with the participants to find new opportunities for action on climate issues, whether for funding or partnerships for research or the sharing of infrastructures for these purposes.
