Objective of the event
- Inspire leaders of higher education institutions about the possibilities of setting up Climate Action Labs.
- Exhibit the results of the installation of Climate Action Labs in 11 higher education institutions in Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil.
- Motivate new higher education institutions to connect with these experiences.
Brief description
This event aims to showcase the efforts of universities in Latin America to activate community actions that increase the resilience of the communities where they are located. In particular, it will show how international cooperation between universities in Europe and Latin America has been key for accelerating the changes required in an increasingly adverse socio-ecological context.
Eleven institutions have set up Climate Action Labs in Latin America, with the support of Erasmus+ and the Botnar Foundation, and it is hoped that this will inaugurate an international network of collaboration between universities in the global south to enhance the possibilities of contributing to climate action from the academic world.
The event will start with a presentation of the concept behind the Climate Action Labs, the methodology and how the co-creation and acceleration process has been carried out in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico.
Then, laboratories from different universities will be given the opportunity to participate in a semi-structured conversation on the role that higher education institutions can play in accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy, bearing in mind the conditions of extractivism, inequality, and injustice that are still present in the continent.
